About the Track
Zolder is a former Formula 1 race track in Belgium with a winding course and characteristic jumps in turns 6 and 7.
History
The facility was opened in 1963 and used as a Formula 1 race track from 1973. The Belgian Grand Prix of Formula 1 was held here a total of ten times from 1973. After the fatal accident of the Canadian Gilles Villeneuve, the track was considered too dangerous and the Formula 1 moved to Spa-Francorchamps the following year. Instead of the fast right-hand bend where Villeneuve collided with Jochen Mass, there is now the Gilles Villeneuve chicane. From 1983, Formula 1 moved to Spa. In 1984, the first DTM race ever took place in Zolder. The DTM has also driven in Zolder in recent years.
